World Cup 2018 Penalty Shoot-Out Raises Awareness For Mens Health Week
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Downpatrick, Rowallane and Slieve Croob District Electoral Area (DEA) Forums in association with County Down Rural Community Network (CDCRN) have organised a fun World Cup Penalty Shoot-out event on Thursday 14 June from 6.30pm to 9.30pm in Downpatrick Sports Centre, Brannish Road to highlight and celebrate Men's Health Week.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said, “With the World Cup 2018 commencing on 14 June, what better way to get men together and raise awareness of health issues that affect men and the local services available to them. The penalty shoot-out event will have 32 teams of three players aged 18 years plus and all abilities will be taking part in this event which promises to be a hotly contested competition.”
Cllr Mulgrew continued, “Every year, between 11-17 June the world celebrates Men’s Health Week and the more well-known the week becomes, the more men will feel like it is okay to talk about their health issues and not just push them to the side and ignore health problems away. The theme this year focuses upon the famous words of the first man to walk on the moon, Astronaut Neil Armstrong, when he said ‘One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.’ The key question being asked to men this year is: “what small step are you going to take to improve your health?”
