Warrenpoint Public Realm Scheme – Works Now Underway
Following completion of the Warrenpoint NIE Network Upgrade in 2015 and 2016, the long awaited Environmental Improvement scheme has now commenced works in Warrenpoint town centre.
The contractors Northstone NI, will be delivering the scheme during the course of 2016.
The Scheme will focus on Church Street, The Square, Dock Street and parts of Charlotte Street and Newry Street. The works involve the under-grounding of overhead services; installation of new kerbing and pathways in natural stone paving; car-park resurfacing; new decorative street lighting; new street furniture and tree planting.
Speaking about the Improvement works, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Ruane welcomed the scheme and said, “Warrenpoint has waited a long time for this Scheme. It presents a great opportunity to further boost the overall regeneration and grow of the town.”
Cllr Ruane explained, “In light of so much planned activity, regular liaison is being held with local elected councillors, statutory agencies and trader representatives from the Warrenpoint Burren and Rostrevor Chamber of Commerce.
The Council is mindful of the town’s busy streets, the contractor in fulfilling their Public Liaison role will be in touch with effected Traders throughout the duration of the scheme to keep them informed and take on board key delivery times and access requirements they have.”
