Warrenpoint Municipal Park Community, Food and Gardening Celebration Event
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is hosting a celebration event in Warrenpoint Municipal Park on Saturday 11 June 2022 from 11am to 4pm to mark the end of the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) Project.
The National Lottery Heritage Fund awarded the Council a grant of £850,000 following restoration of the Park, which has enabled the Council to work with a range of partners in the delivery of educational and community orientated activities.
Newry, Mourne and Down District former Chairperson, Councillor Michael Rice said, “Warrenpoint Municipal Park offers residents and visitors the opportunity to play tennis, borrow a book from the Little Library, attend a range of activities or visit the play park with young children. This has all been made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. I would like to encourage residents to enjoy Saturday’s event to celebrate Warrenpoint Municipal Park.”
The free celebration event will feature a range of fun activities for all the family as well as an artisan market, gardening displays by local schools and Warrenpoint Community Garden. Nurseries and garden centres will also be on hand to provide advice and guidance on anything from flowers to furniture. There will be ‘Grow Your Own’ giveaways and children can enjoy free arts and crafts.
To highlight the region’s rich food produce, celebrity chef, Paul Cunningham, who has appeared twice on the BBC’s Great British Menu, will cook a selection of dishes throughout the day under the theme ‘The Larder that Mourne Provides’. Paul will be sharing tips and techniques as he cooks dishes from his trademark 20-mile menu, where all ingredients are locally sourced from sustainable suppliers.
Families can play crazy golf, traditional carnival games and enjoy live entertainment from the bandstand. The lawn will be turned into a picnic area and mobile food vendors will also be on site.
Former Chairperson, Councillor Michael Rice continued, “Please come and enjoy this special day organised to showcase the very best of the Park’s attributes, celebrate its restoration and highlight its contribution to the town of Warrenpoint.”
