Visitor Facilities at Slieve Gullion Forest Park set for Improvement
New amenities will soon enhance the experience of all those coming to enjoy the attractions at Slieve Gullion Forest Park.
Over the coming months, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council will be upgrading the Park’s visitor information facilities and restrooms, which will include accessible amenities for disabled visitors as well as new storage areas.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said, “Slieve Gullion Forest Park is a premier 4 star visitor attraction which currently provides a fantastic resource for both the local community and over 350,000 tourists who visit the Park annually. The Park has received significant investment and with this, the Council is striving to provide 5 star facilities, which will further enhance the visitor experience.”
“The Council is carrying out these improvements in response to visitor feedback, which highlighted the need for improved facilities to cater for the increasing numbers.”
The contractor CGDM began work in late January with the project expected to be completed by the end of June. The contractual work will result in the short term reduction in parking areas, however temporary parking will be provided at peak times to meet visitor demand.
