‘Taste the Island’ Comes to Killeavy Castle Estate
The newly opened Killeavy Castle Estate is hosting a food festival, as part of the ‘Taste the Island’ initiative on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September, from 11am to 5pm in the Estate’s Walled Garden. The festival, which has been organised in conjunction with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, is in celebration of all things local and will include local food, drink, music, family entertainment, chef masterclasses, producer stories, sale of produce and much more.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “I am pleased to see ‘Taste the Island’ come to Killeavy Castle and celebrate the quality and creativeness of our local food producers.
“We have been working closely with all our partners to bring our food story to the island of Ireland and offer a compelling programme of food and drink that will delight visitors to our region and encourage them to enjoy everything we have to offer.”
Jason Foody General Manager, Killeavy Castle said, “We are excited to showcase the finest of local produce, both from our own working farm and garden as well as from all the local food and drink suppliers.
“We’re very proud that Northern Ireland has been designated the ‘Best Food Destination 2018/19’ and pleased to host this event as part of the ‘Taste the Island’ initiative. I hope that this Food Festival will become an annual event and I look forward to an enjoyable weekend for all.”
Local food and drink producers that will be showcasing their produce at Killeavy Castle Estate include Whitewater Brewery, Taste of Gullion, Crawfords Seaweed Company, Forthill Farm, Keenan Seafoods, Glastry Farms, Baird Butchers, Ballymakenney Farm, Burren Balsamics, Neary Nogs Chocolate, Mountain Dew Distillery, Ballylisk Cheese, Armagh Cider Company, Simply Scampi and Ruby Fine Foods.
