‘Taste the Island’ Comes to Ballynahinch
Ballynahinch is set to become a food and drink heaven with a weekend of food and entertainment on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November.
The ‘Taste of Ballynahinch’ weekend is part of a wider ‘Taste the Island’ programme of events, a joint initiative by Tourism NI and Tourism Ireland that celebrates the island of Ireland’s food and drink.
On Saturday from 11am-3pm, Market Square will be transformed with a food market showcasing local producers and their products as well as free children’s arts and crafts, balloon modelers, and live music.
As part of the weekend’s events, Montalto Estate will have free entry from 10am to 3pm on Sunday 24 November, both by foot on Dromore Street and through the Spa Road entrance. There will be free activities in the Estate from 11am-3pm, including foraging taster experiences for the whole family, food talks and bread-making demonstrations and a tour of the estate gardens. On these tours visitors will learn about the produce that would have been grown in country gardens when Montalto House was first built. Participants will see how important it was to have a working garden and which fruits and vegetables were once thought of as exotic. There will also be free face-painting, music, food tasting and much much more.
Also on Sunday afternoon from 1pm-4pm, Millbrook Lodge Hotel will have a free food and drink event where you can meet the makers of local produce and enjoy a cookery demonstration by Paula McIntyre, an outdoor/indoor BBQ with the chefs from the hotel, live music and free family activities.
