Successful Neighbourhood Renewal Youth Team Challenge
On Thursday 18August, 140 young people from across Newry city took part in the annual Raft Racing Team Challenge on the Albert Basin.
The event engages young people from across the Neighbourhood Renewable Area and was organised by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council together with the Confederation of Community Groups. The challenge gave participants a unique opportunity to enjoy water based activities by racing against their peers from Newry Canal into the Albert Basin.
Funding for the event was provided from the Department for Communities under the Neighbourhood Renewal Investment Fund.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Deputy Chairperson Cllr Garth Craig said, “The Neighbourhood Renewal Youth Team Challenge is a fantastic event and continues to successfully engage young people from the district. It is wonderful to witness the fun and team building enjoyed by all the participants.”
In attendance to present trophies to the participants alongside Cllr Garth Craig were Newry Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership Chairperson Geraldine Merendino and Catherine McInerney from the Department for Communities.
Cllr Craig continued, “I would like to thank the Department for Communities for the support and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Neighbourhood Renewal Officer Sean McKevitt and Cathy McMahon Confederation of Community Groups who organised and managed the event.”
