St Mary’s Primary School Welcomed to Council Chamber by Chairperson
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey recently hosted a reception at the Council Chamber for school children from St Mary’s Primary School Barr, at the Council Offices in Newry.
The pupils who attended from P4 – P7 expressed their interest to visit the Council Chamber as they have set up their own School Council where they discuss issues ranging from littering to bullying. The pupils had a Q&A session with the Chairperson and met with staff from the Health and Wellbeing Department.
Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “I was delighted to welcome the young children from St Mary’s Primary School. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn about the various departments and different aspects of Council as well as schemes and programmes that the Council run, such as the 5 Steps to Wellbeing initiative.”
He continued, “Visits like this help the young students of St Mary’s Primary School gain knowledge and understand more about the civic role Council plays, I can see the pupils are keen to take this knowledge back to their own School Council where they can put this knowledge into practice.”
