Slieve Gullion Marks Positive Ageing Month
Slieve Gullion District Electoral Area (DEA) Forum, in partnership with Age Friendly, has marked this years’ Positive Aging month with an information fair for older people. The free event, which was held on Thursday, 18 October in Newtownhamilton Community Centre, featured a range of information on support services, as well as arts and crafts, baking and exercise taster sessions for attendees.
Positive Ageing Month focuses on the contributions older people make to society as well as increasing awareness of issues affecting them, particularly health and wellbeing, keeping active, safety, and isolation.
Over 100 older citizens from around the Slieve Gullion area attended the event which was supported by the Newtownhamilton Community Association. A number of other organisations attended to provide support information, including Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke, Home Safety, Lislea Men’s Shed, South Armagh Women’s Network, the Policing and Community Safety Partnership, the WALD Centre, Southern Health and Social Care Trust, Radius, Foot Gullion, Housing Executive, CCG, Action on Elder Abuse, and Brain Injury.
This event is part of a number of partnership events between DEAs and Age Friendly taking place throughout the District Council area.
