Rowallane District Electoral Area Forum Supports Walk for Hope in Montalto Estate
Rowallane District Electoral Area (DEA), in partnership with County Down Rural Community Network, and supported by the Public Health Agency and National Lottery Community Fund, attended a Walk for Hope in Montalto Estate, Ballynahinch on Saturday 9 October. The event formed part of the Ballynahinch Suicide Prevention Group’s first ever Festival of Hope. The festival, running from Tuesday 5 October to Friday 15 October, offers a full programme of activities to celebrate World Mental Health Day 2021.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Chairperson, Councillor Cathy Mason said, “The Walk for Hope is one of many events organised within the Festival of Hope. It is a great initiative highlighting World Mental Health Day, as well as raising public awareness of the support and help that is available within our community for those who are struggling and in need of someone to talk to. We all recognise the positive impact that fresh air and walking has on our mental health and wellbeing, and I hope that events such as this will continue to raise awareness across the district.”
Ballynahinch Suicide Prevention Group was established in October 2019 to address the growing concern of increased suicide in Ballynahinch and the neighbouring areas. It identified that there is a real need for agencies to work in partnership to promote mental health and to identify strategic priorities, as well as deliver a plan of activities and events to highlight the support networks that are available locally for those in need.
