Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson Trio Come to Down Arts Centre
Moving On Music will present the acclaimed Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson Trio to Down Arts Centre on Saturday 6th Feb, 8pm.
Two major talents in contemporary Celtic piping, Tyrone-born Jarlath Henderson (BBC Young Musician of the Year) and Scotland’s Ross Ainslie (Radio 2 Musician of the Year Award nominee) first met back in 2003 at the William Kennedy Piping Festival in Armagh. After taking their time to hone and perfect their unique partnership of Scottish bagpipes, border pipes and Irish uilleann pipes, each also playing a variety of whistles, the pair exploded onto the scene with 2009’s stunning debut album, Partners in Crime.
Individually they’re two of the best players around, but together they create a sound built on an astonishing intuition. Backed by the hugely talented Ali Hutton on guitar their sound bursts with emotion and energy - a fusion of pipes and flutes that push the boundaries of what the instruments can achieve. The result is a vibrant mix of new and original compositions, songs and traditional tunes. Ross and Jarlath have fast become one of the most talked about combinations around, wowing audiences wherever they play.
With two albums released to critical acclaim, a busy international touring schedule and numerous award nominations (BBC Young Musician of the Year, Best Duo BBC Radio 2 awards, Best Live Act, Musician of the Year and Trad Composer of the Year Scot Trad Music Awards) this is one act not to miss! The trio will also tour to Ballymoney, Belfast, Armagh and Maghera, for full details visit www.movingonmusic.com. This tour is supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland through the NI Music Touring Programme.
