Remembering World War I at Sean Hollywood Arts Centre
Sean Hollywood Arts Centre is pleased to present a powerful one man play on the first World War, entitled ‘Private Peaceful’ on Wednesday 27 November at 8pm.
The play, which was written by the renowned children’s author, Michael Morporgo, and adapted by Simon Reade, tells the emotional story of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn.
During the long hours before his execution, Tommo looks back on his joyful past, growing up in rural Devon, his first days at school, the accident that killed his father, the time spent with his sweetheart, and the battles and injustices of war that brought him to the front line.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “This powerful production depicts the reality of a young man caught up in events beyond his control.
“I am also pleased to welcome back to Newry Nuala Donnelly from Pintsized Productions. Nuala began her theatre career in our summer youth drama projects and now works in the professional theatre.
“This is a show that is well worth coming out to see.”
For information on the production, which is appropriate for 14-year old and over and depicts scenes of war and gunfire, please contact the Box Office at Sean Hollywood Arts Centre on 028 3031 3180.
