Public Realm
Over many years, the Council has worked in partnership with various funders (particularly the Department for Communities / formerly known as Department for Social Development) to invest significant monies into environmental streetscape improvements within the main urban towns/city within the district.
Working closely with local Chambers of Commerce, Business Groupings and a range of statutory and utility providers, the Council has appointed landscape architects to design and deliver a comprehensive range of streetscape improvements.
Works have typically involved the installation of new natural stone, and/or granite paving and kerbing on footways. New decorative street lighting, street furniture, tree planting and the under-grounding of overhead services have also formed part of many completed schemes.
The Council will continue to lobby for further monies and schemes across the district, to ensure that its urban centres, remain as attractive and encouraging places for private investment and public trade to continue.
