Often, there is confusion about the different roles and responsibilities of Building Control and the Planning Service.  The Planning Service is responsible for how your building or extension looks, where it is situated in the surrounding area, and the impact it has on the neighbourhood.

Building Control however, is concerned about the structure, fire safety, the thermal and fuel efficiency of the building, and how disabled people can access and use the building.
