PEACEPLUS
PEACEPLUS is a new European Union funding programme designed to support peace and prosperity across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland. It is managed by the Special EU Programmes Body and builds on the work of the PEACE and INTERREG programmes.
The PEACEPLUS Programme is a €1bn investment in the social, economic and environmental development of Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland, comprising six themes, which encompass 21 individual investment areas.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is the Lead Partner for Theme 1.1 ‘Building Peaceful and Thriving Communities’.
Building Peaceful and Thriving Communities
The ‘Building Peaceful and Thriving Communities’ Plan will be centred around three core themes.
- Local Community Regeneration and Transformation
- Thriving and Peaceful Communities
- Building Respect for all Cultural Identities.
A PEACEPLUS Partnership has been established for the Newry Mourne and Down District Council area to develop priority actions for the local area and collectively address these in a manner which will make a significant and lasting contribution to peace and reconciliation.
This Partnership consists of 25 members made up of nine Newry, Mourne and Down District Councillors, five Statutory Representatives and eleven Social Partners.
The plan, informed by inclusive engagement with the local community, will enable and empower the PEACEPLUS partnership to self-determine and deliver priority projects and programmes on a cross community basis. It is hoped this will result in improved, shared and inclusive local services, facilities and spaces which will make a significant and lasting contribution to peace and reconciliation.
