Older People Chatting, Connecting and Enjoying Life
Downpatrick, Rowallane and Slieve Croob District Electoral Area (DEA) Fora have linked up with County Down Rural Community Network (CDRCN), Home Accident Prevention and Age Friendly Alliance to host an exciting new ‘Senior Shindig’ initiative for older people.
This unique event will take place on Tuesday 27 February from 10am to 2pm at The Millbrook Lodge Hotel, Ballynahinch.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said, “Older people will enjoy a fun packed day of entertainment with cultural dancers, a bespoke comedy drama performance with a hard hitting safety message, healthy bingo and much more. There will be a range of statutory and voluntary agencies present, offering vital information and advice that will enhance health and wellbeing outcomes.
Councillor Mulgrew continued, “The ‘Senior Shindig’ aims to reduce rural and social isolation by providing a platform for people to chat, connect and build new relations. I am delighted to say that there are no longer any spaces left at this event which demonstrates a clear demand for more events and initiatives such as this for our district’s senior residents. The Council became responsible for Community Planning in 2015 and this initiative is an excellent example of different agencies working together and using resources that will deliver health and safety benefits to the community.”
