NI Year of Food and Drink 2016 in Newry, Mourne and Down
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council was the first local authority in Northern Ireland to host a local road show on the forthcoming Northern Ireland Year of Food and Drink. The road show took place in Warrenpoint on Friday 23 October and gave delegates the opportunity to learn more about the Tourism NI initiative and the potential benefits it can bring to the district.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Naomi Bailie said, “The NI Year of Food and Drink 2016 will be a celebration of our tastiest produce. In Newry, Mourne and Down the landscape, traditions and people make our food heritage so unique. With a whole year of foodie experiences there will be no better time for visitors to enjoy a true taste of our area. The Council will be working with key organisations such as Tourism NI, Food NI and Tourism Ireland and the industry, are keen to promote and create positive PR about all that is good in our food and drink industry.”
Cllr Bailie continued, “To maximise the opportunities for the Newry, Mourne and Down region, the Council want to work with the industry to discover how food and drink can add value to the tourism experience. We realise the tremendous potential in our food and drink sector and the impact it can make on tourism and the economy.
