Newtownhamilton Celebrates International Children’s
Newtownhamilton will celebrate International Children’s Day in style with an event in the Community Centre on Friday, 8 June from 4pm to 6pm.
The event will focus on healthy living for children and parents, with a range of fun activities including a smoothie making bicycle and healthy food tasting, as well as the chance to make your own ‘wrap’. A display from the Safety Services will be on the Commons and there will be stands providing free health checks for parents and information on health and well-being. As an added bonus, music and dance performances will also be on display, reflecting cultural traditions in the area.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said, “I am delighted to see the way Newtownhamilton is marking International Children’s Day. Improving the health of all our citizens—children and parents alike—is one of the Council’s priorities and we are always looking for ways to provide information in an entertaining setting.
“I would urge all families in the area to come and enjoy themselves at this celebration and take advantage of the information on offer.”
The event has been organised by the Council’s Slieve Gullion District Electoral Area (DEA) in partnership with a number of agencies including Newtownhamilton Community Association, the Southern Health & Social Care Trust, Supporting Parents and Children Everywhere (SPACE), the Children & Young People’s Strategic Partnership, (South Armagh Locality Planning Group), SureStart South Armagh.
All activities on the day are free of charge and everyone is welcome. The DEA will also be interested in hearing your views on how to improve the health and wellbeing of the area.
