Newry Twilight Market Proves to be a Great Success
On Friday 1 April, crowds gathered at Newry’s unique market venue to attend the first ever Newry Twilight Market. Newry, Mourne and Down District Council was thrilled with the success of the Twilight Market which was held as part of the ‘Taste Junction’ initiative for The Year of Food and Drink 2016.
Thousands of visitors came along to experience the excellent local food and drink produce on offer with over fifty stalls ranging from goat burger to pizzas, variety of sauces, oils and chocolates while not forgetting the local brewed craft beers and cider that were also served on the night. The atmosphere was electric with live entertainment throughout the night and children also enjoyed the special cookery and craft skills. Stall holders were so busy throughout the fantastic night some even sold out of produce due to the high levels of demand from keen customers.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Ruane said, “I am delighted how successful the Twilight Market in Newry was for the local producers, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and for The Year of Food and Drink. I would like to congratulate the Council staff involved on delivering this excellent event. It was great to witness the many people who turned out to support and experience the first ever Twilight Market in Newry which was a massive showcase of award winning produce and the vibrant restaurant sector”.
Councillor Ruane added, “A large number of attendees provided positive comments about the excellent and varied range of food and drink available on their own doorstep. The positive atmosphere of the market and the buzz it brought to the City were among the many areas of praise the Market received with the vast majority of visitors claiming they would definitely attend again and would love to have more of these events in Newry.”
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council look forward to hosting more Twilight Markets in the near future.
