Newry Resident Wins Recycler of the Month
Lauren Byrne from Newry has been named as Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Recycler of the Month. The competition, which is sponsored by Castlereagh Motors, awards a £50 prize to residents who use their recycling bins correctly.
Lauren was congratulated on the great effort and pride she puts into using her blue bin to its full recycling potential. Lauren’s bin was filled with all the correct recyclable material including plastic pots, tubs and trays, newspapers, cartons, glass bottles and cans.
Lauren said, “I always try to make sure that my household waste is put into the correct bins and that each of my bins contain the right materials, ready for recycling . If I am unsure about a certain material, I know that I can contact Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to find out the correct course of action.”
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Recycling Officer, Tara Cunningham, checked 20 bins in the Newry area at random and was delighted to find that the majority of residents living in the area checked were using their blue bins correctly. Residents were informed and reminded not to put food waste, tissue, plastic wrapping and polystyrene food trays into their blue bins.
