Newry, Mourne and Down Marks Positive Ageing Month
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council marked the 2019 Positive Ageing Month with a celebration day event for older people on Wednesday 2 October at the Newry Leisure Centre.
The event, held for the eighth year in succession, highlighted and celebrated all the positive aspects of growing older.
The main focus of the day’s events was to help older people remain active, connected and included. The event also provided information on activities and services available within the community that will help to alleviate loneliness, isolation and deprivation.
Many of the area’s older people’s groups provided host stands and offered information about their activities. Some groups presented taster sessions of their activities in the hope that seniors who are not already involved would feel encouraged to join.
In addition, representatives and members from statutory and voluntary organisations and services were on hand to provide information about their groups and about the events they have to offer for Positive Ageing Month.
