Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Promotes Alcohol Awareness Week
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is marking Alcohol Awareness Week, which runs from Monday 17 June until Sunday 23 June, by providing information to area residents.
Newry Leisure Centre will be the venue for an information stand provided by Start 360 on Monday 17 June while ASCERT will host a stand in Down Leisure Centre on Friday 21 June, with both taking place between 10am and 12noon.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “I would encourage everyone who takes an alcoholic drink to use this week to reflect on how much they consume and how they can incorporate alcohol free days into their daily and weekly routines.
“We are all aware of guidance from the Chief Medical Officer that we should not be drinking more than 14 units a week on a regular basis. However, we may not be clear on what a unit is and which drinks contain more or fewer units.
“The information stands in Newry and Down leisure centres will have professionals on hand who can help clarify these issues and help those attending become more aware of the effects of alcohol consumption.”
Anyone who is interested in finding out more information on how to be alcohol aware, please call in to either Newry Leisure Centre on Monday 17 June or Down Leisure Centre on Friday 21 June from 10am to speak to the professional experts.
