Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Combines Two Passions at Gourmet Golf Event
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is partnering with Warrenpoint Golf Course for a new adventure in golf and gourmet food.
The two passions combine in this latest ‘Taste the Island’ event coming to Newry, Mourne and Down on Friday 27 September. Gourmet Golf will be a celebration of all that is great in the district - local food, drink and of course, golf!
Participants will have the chance to taste their way through nine holes on the fabulous Warrenpoint Golf Club parkland course while experiencing a different food and drink experience at each one. At the end of the event guests will enjoy more local dishes and drinks with a ‘Tapas & Tipple’ experience in Fairway’s Restaurant.
Gourmet Golf is just one of the district’s Taste the Island events this autumn. A joint initiative by Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Ireland, Tourism Northern Ireland, supported by local Councils and the food and drink industry, Taste the Island aims to encourage visitors to travel to Ireland to experience a compelling programme of authentic food and drink experiences, which runs from September to November.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “The Council is delighted to be working with Warrenpoint Golf Club and our local food and drink producers on this exciting, new event bringing food, drink and golf together as one experience, which promises to be a different and enjoyable game of golf.”
Cllr Casey continued, “We have been working closely with our industry partners to bring our food story to the Island of Ireland. We have created our own unique programme of authentic food and drink experiences through the Taste the Island initiative to attract visitors to our region. Each event will celebrate the quality, creativity and entrepreneurship from our local industry.”
Captain of Warrenpoint Golf Club, Shane Moan said, “Warrenpoint Golf Club is delighted to be hosting this Gourmet Golf event in conjunction with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. It will showcase a superb selection of locally produced food and drink. We look forward to welcoming you to the club for what will be a tasting experience to savour.”
Anyone wishing to join in the fun on 27 September can choose from several tee times, which are available all day. There promises to be something for everyone to enjoy and producers include Mourne Mountain Brewery, White Water Brewery, Killowen Gin, Neary Nogs Chocolate, Little Meat Company, Helen’s Jams & Preserves, Crawford’s Rock Seaweed, Castle Screen Farm, Mange Tout and Leafy Green.
