Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Celebrates Employees with 40 Years of Service
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Pete Byrne held a special reception on Thursday 20 March, to honour employees who have reached an impressive milestone of 40 years of continuous public service. These dedicated employees collectively boast over 665 years of service to the Council.
Chairperson, Councillor Pete Byrne led the event and expressed his gratitude for the hard work and commitment of the recipients including, Thomas McElroy, Brenda Sloan, Edna Teggarty, Deirdre Hanna, Christine McCormick, Ann Finnegan, Linda Cunningham, Paul Stratton, Ciara Lowe, Nuala Mooney, Cathal McKibbin, Adrian Fitzsimons. In addition, Michael McKibbin, Martin McNally, Anne Marie Polley and Ian Haffey have also achieved over 40 years of continuous service but were not able to attend the reception.
He said, “I am delighted to present 40-year recognition awards to these employees and to say thank you for their public service. They have shown commitment and dedication throughout, and tonight is in recognition of their loyalty.”
He further acknowledged their invaluable contribution to the smooth running of the Council’s operations, noting that their efforts are essential in achieving the Council’s corporate objectives. He continued, “We are privileged to have such talented, innovative and motivated employees who make a real difference to our ratepayers and other stakeholders. Without the skills and dedication of all our staff, the Council would not be able to function at the high standard expected by our community.”
In his closing remarks, Chairperson Councillor Byrne added, “During my term of office, I have had the pleasure of working alongside many of you and I can confidently say that every employee carries out their duties to the highest professional standard.”
Chief Executive of the Council, Mrs Marie Ward also praised the award recipients. She said, “I am incredibly proud of the exceptionally talented and committed people who work tirelessly to achieve the Council’s ambitions and help make it an efficient and welcoming place.”
Each award recipient was presented with a beautifully engraved vase by the Chairperson as a token of appreciation. The evening was followed by a reception, where the Chairperson took the opportunity to speak informally with employees and their guests.
This recognition of long-standing service highlights the dedication and hard work that contribute to the success and efficiency of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
