Newry Cycle for Health Scheme Launched
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council in partnership with the Public Health Agency, Southern Health and Social Care Trust (SHSCT), and EBA 2020 Programme launched the Newry Cycle for Health Scheme on Wednesday 28 June 2017.
The Newry tow path is a great resource for the area that enables groups unfamiliar with cycling to try it in a safe space far from main roads. ‘Pods’ along the path can house up to 16 bikes and safety equipment to allow SHSCT leaders to facilitate group cycles.
The leaders help and encourage participants who are new to cycling and wish to increase their physical activity levels.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said, “I am delighted to see people taking part in the project and increasing their physical activity levels while improving their health in a fun way. Congratulations to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and all public bodies who gave their support to this venture”.
Everybody Active 2020 (EBA2020) is a SportNI lottery funded programme that focuses on getting people to enjoy exercise and encouraging people to be more physically active.
