New Year, New You Workshops at Down Arts Centre
Down Arts Centre has a diverse line up of classes and workshops this season, from drawing and painting with Vincent McDonnell, dressmaking with Naomi Whan and pottery with Sandra Robinson.
New classes this term include Silver Jewellery on Tuesday evenings from 21 January between 7pm-9pm, running for 12 weeks. This class is taught by Karen Daye-Hutchinson, owner of jewellery brand Ghost and Bonesetter. Karen is an award-winning artist who works across a range of mediums and exhibits nationally and internationally.
Another new edition to the programme is Crochet for Improvers, led by expert teacher, Lucinda Guy. This 12-week class starts on Thursday 23 January from 7pm-9pm.
For those who wish to relax and unwind, Tai Chi with Petsey Burns is the ticket - with a lunch time class running from Tuesday 21 January from 12.30pm-1.30pm for 10 weeks. The class aims to enhance the body’s intrinsic energy system. There are also evening classes available starting on Thursday 23 January from 6.30pm-7.30pm.
Look out also for our series of One Day Workshops starting on Saturday 25 January with Metal Embossing by Lindy McMahon and Calligraphy with Jacquie Brachi on Saturday 8 February. The One Day programme runs every Saturday with a different class each week from running frin 10am-4pm. This is a great way to spend a day creating new things!
The Arts Centre also has a great programme for kids classes, including Pottery for 4-6 year olds from 11am-12noon and 7-11 year olds from 1.30pm-2pm, both beginning Saturday 25 January. Kieron Black returns with Illustration Classes for 9-11year olds on Tuesday 4 February from 4-6pm for ten weeks. In this exciting workshop children get to develop storyboards and create their very own comic book characters.
