New Year, New You
Down Arts Centre has a terrific line up of classes this January from Beginners Dressmaking to Flower Arranging and Pottery workshops, as well as Guitar for Improvers, Cake Decorating and Creative Writing.
Adults classes are now open for enrolment and although most of the weekly classes have sold out, there is still limited availability for Flower Arranging, starting on Monday 8 January from 7pm–9pm for four weeks; Beginners Dressmaking, which starts on Thursday 11 January from 10.30am–1pm for 12 weeks, and Pottery for Beginners, beginning on Wednesday 17 January 10.30am–12.30pm for 12 weeks.
Creative Writing has proven to be a popular class and this year for the first time, as well as the regular Wednesday class in Downpatrick, we have extended our creative writing programme to Newcastle. Join poet, playwright and children’s author, Paula Matthews on Monday 15 January from 7pm–9pm for 10 weeks at the Newcastle Centre, as she explores how we can unlock our creativity and use our writing to tap into our resilience.
Or why not let published author/artist, Kieron Black help you get your story from daydream to a workable plot all fleshed out with crazy characters, impossible scenarios and fantastic landscapes, in a weekly class that really tells a story. ‘I Have a Story in Me’ takes place on Tuesdays from 1.30pm–3.30pm at Down Arts Centre starting from 16 January.
If you are looking to develop your mindfulness practice with a greater sense of well-being and fitness, Tai FitChi is proving to be a popular alternative to traditional Tai Chi, which offers all the benefits and more. Suitable for all ages, this class has been extended to Thursday nights starting from 18 January from 8pm–9pm for 10 weeks.
Programmes are available to pick up now from Down Arts Centre or online at downartscentre.com.
