New Collaborative Exhibition Opens in Down Arts Centre
New Collaborative Exhibition Opens in Down Arts Centre
On Thursday 6 October, Down Arts Centre will be hosting a collaborative, multi-media exhibition from an exciting line-up of contemporary artists presenting a fresh take on the ancient arts.
In ancient Greece and Rome designated Augurs determined the Auspices, the will of the gods, by interpreting the flight patterns of birds. They also sent messages to the gods on behalf of the people.
In response to recent poetry on this theme by Belfast-based Maria McManus (ACNI ACES awardee), an accomplished group of artists present new work in sound, painting, printing, fine art photography, mixed media art works, and film.
This project, will share the work of composer Dr. Simon Waters, (Sonic Arts Research Centre, QUB), visual artists Rosie McGurran (Connemara and Belfast), Helen Sharp (Fermanagh), Irene Uhlemann (Dublin), Bernarde Lynn (Belfast) and cellist and filmmaker Tom Hughes (Belfast).
The exhibition will run until Saturday 29 October and is free to view during Down Arts Centre opening hours.
On 9 October, budding readers, writers and singers are invited to join the Down Arts Centre to celebrate the written word in all its forms. Offering a friendly space to read, thos in attendance can join in by sharing a piece of their own work, or perhaps a favourite poem.
To coincide with the Cirque des Oiseaux; Augurs and Artists exhibition, poet Maria McManus will read her poems which are the core text to which the visual artists, composers and filmmaker responded.
This relaxing experience is a free experience and will be running from 2.30 to 4.30pm. For further information call 028 4461 0747 or visit www.downartscentre.com to see full programme of events.
