Making an Application
Any building works, structural alterations or a change of use require a Building Control Application with Full Plans or a Building Notice.
To make an application, download the relevant application form at the bottom of this page.
Full plans applications include:
- The erection of a building
- An extension of an existing building
- A roof space conversion to form a habitable room or additional storey to a dwelling
- Building change of use
- Installation or alteration of services and fittings
Building Notice Applications include:
- Replacement Combustion Appliances (i.e. Boilers and Stoves)
- Installation, Extension or Conversion of Heating Systems
- Insulation (Cavity and Loft)
- Solar Panels
- Extensions less than 10m2
- Porches less than 5m2
- Replacement Conservatory Roof
PLEASE NOTE: WORK TO A NON-DOMESTIC PROPERTY CANNOT BE MADE USING THE BUILDING NOTICE APPLICATION ROUTE.
Pre-submission application:
If you are considering making a non-domestic application and need advice on a specific area of Building Regulations, we provide a free pre-submission application consultation. A pre-submission requires you to complete an application form which is available below or from our office.
If work has already been completed without the submission of a Full Plans or a Building Notice Application, this work is unauthorised, and a Regularisation Application is legally required.
When making an application please ensure that it is sent to the office that will be inspecting the work, refer to area details here.
On-line Building Control and Regularisation Application Service
You can submit and pay electronically for a Building Notice or Regularisation Application online. This service is a fast and efficient alternative to the traditional methods of submitting a Building Control Application.
To submit an Online Building Notice or Regularisation Application via the Council Direct website, you can quickly register a secure account by providing an email address and password. Once registered you can begin to submit applications and payments online.
The Council Direct website is user friendly and provides a step-by-step process ending with a secure payment screen, accepting both debit and credit cards. The system has a built-in fee calculator to help calculate the correct fee.
Applications for multiple properties can be submitted under one Council Direct Account.
Once your application has been submitted, it will be validated within 2 working days. Following validation you can arrange for an inspection by contacting the relevant office.
