Local Organisations Recognised for Supporting Their Communities

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has nominated two highly valued organisations within the district to the IPB Pride of Place All Ireland Awards 2019 in Association with Co-operation Ireland. 

Altnaveigh House in Newry has been nominated in the Cities category for ‘Communities Reaching Out’ and Hannas Close in Kilkeel has been nominated under the main category for ‘Tourism Destination’.  On Tuesday 23 July, judges from Pride of Place Awards visited the organisations when they demonstrated their role and activities within their communities by presentations of their projects and exhibitions demonstrating their working partnership with sectors across all their community.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is proud to have selected these excellent groups who have strong community involvement, support community action and value volunteerism.  Both groups will now be invited to attend the awards ceremony in Kilkenny on 30 November and we wish them all the luck.”
