Launch of New ‘Down To Dine’ Food Tour
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Taste Junction initiative is delighted to support the Down To Dine Food Tour that is taking place on Wednesday 16March 2016.
Denvir's Downpatrick, The Cuan Licensed Guest Inn, Strangford and Currans Bar and Seafood/Steakhouse, Chapeltown are teaming up to offer a food tour package that is sure to impress.
Starting the evening at 6pm in Denvir's, participants will enjoy craft beer tasting with light bites, whilst getting to know your guide and fellow guests. Then it’s off viabus to The Cuan for a seafood selection with homemade seaweed bread, along with a glass of wine or Guinness. Next stop on the tour will be to Curran's Bar where a scrumptious meat course will be sure to satisfy. Finally, the tour will finish up back at Denvir's for desserts and coffee, as well as entertainment with traditional Irish music.
Stephen Magorrian proprietor of Denvir’s explained, “Newry, Mourne and Down is outstanding in terms of both beauty and history as well has having some wonderful restaurants serving fresh local produce. So, we had the idea of trying to combine all these assets together in an evening which will be a bit different, a guided tour with some wonderful food and beverage in three of the best known establishments in Lecale. It has been great to work together on planning the night, we can’t wait for it to take place, we will do all that we can to ensure that those who come have a memorable evening, and hopefully, things will be so good that it is something which will be become a regular event.”
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Cllr Mickey Ruane said, “Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is pleased to support the Down to Dine Food Tour and to profile the fresh produce and great restaurants that our area has to offer. This tour is one of many exciting initiatives that will feature in the district over the fourth coming year.
Cllr Ruane continued, “Food and Drink experiences have become increasingly important to tourism, they provide an opportunity to showcase our indigenous offerings. Visitors can learn about our heritage, landscape and culture and meet our people through our food and drink experiences.”
