Launch of Drumalane Quayside Close Community Building
Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick officially launched the Drumalane Quayside Close community facility project on Wednesday 10 May with a sod cutting ceremony on the site.
Councillor Fitzpatrick commended everyone involved and said, “This is one of many projects that the Department for Communities through the Neighbourhood Renewal Investment Programme has funded in the Newry City area and thanks must go to department for their continued support”.
Councillor Fitzpatrick continued, “This investment of £195,500 will deliver a much needed community facility and will provide real opportunities for all the people of this area to engage in community activity, improving overall health and well being and equality of opportunity.
It is yet another excellent model of both the Council and the Department for Communities working together to address the causes of deprivation in the Newry Neighbourhood Renewal Area and a further triumph for the hard working community representatives. I would also like to thank the officers within the Active and Healthy communities department in Newry Mourne and Down District Council and to the Neighbourhood Renewal partnership for their dedication and commitment as they help to deliver their investment programme.
Drumalane Quayside Close Community Association Chairperson, Mr Gerard Hutchinson said, “I thank everyone for their hard work in helping to achieve our dream of a new community building in the area. A special thanks to Council and the Department for Communities for their commitment and support and added a special thanks to the Neighbourhood renewal partnership board and all the community volunteers”.
Mr Hutchinson continued, “This project will help us to further strengthen our resolve to make our area a better place to live and provide a place where people are welcome and feel safe. This facility when completed will be for the benefit of everyone and we will provide an open door policy to all”.
