Kilkeel Man Wins Recycler of the Month
Kilkeel Man Wins Recycler of the Month
Ian Hanna from Kilkeel has been named this month’s Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s ‘Recycler of the Month’ for March. Congratulations to Ian who has been awarded a £50 prize. The competition aims to encourage people to recycle more by rewarding them for their efforts and is kindly sponsored by Castlereagh Motors in partnership with the Council.
Ian was congratulated for having a flawless blue bin that contained no contamination. Ian’s bin was filled with all the various materials that can be recycled in the blue bin including paper, cardboard, food and drink cans, bottles and cartons. All the material in the blue bin was clean, dry and loose and ready for sorting. Ian’s brown bin was also full of food and garden waste which is turned into nutrient rich compost.
Ian said, “When I first got my blue bin I thought it would be too much hassle to sort my waste for recycling. In time, I established a system in the house and recycling is now a good habit. I like to think I am doing my little bit for the environment and it’s easy with the waste being lifted from my door. I will use the £50 to buy a treat for my wife.”
The recycling officer checked bins in Kilkeel and was very pleased to find the majority of people use their bin correctly. Residents are reminded that food waste, tissue, polystyrene food trays and plastic wrapping cannot be recycled in the blue bin.
