Join the Be Active team at Down Leisure Centre

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s new Down Leisure Centre is offering an extensive range of membership packages to encourage residents to ‘Be Active’ and take advantage of the state-of-the-art facilities.

The new centre, which will host a weekend of activities on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 November before its formal opening on Monday 26 November, has something for everyone, from an 85 station Wellness gym, spin studio and luxury health suite, to a six-lane swimming and learner pool.

The new facilities are also a boost to the Council’s ‘Be Active’ campaign, which aims to motivate people to undertake more activity in their day-to-day lives. Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Mark Murnin, said: “The Council is delighted to be able to provide state-of-the-art facilities to make the goal of integrating physical activity into people’s everyday routine much easier. A healthy and active lifestyle contributes to overall wellbeing, something that is at the heart of our Be Active campaign.

“Part of encouraging everyone to take part in more physical activity is ensuring that this is affordable and the Down Leisure Centre will be offering a number of membership packages. Becoming a member at the centre is more than just belonging to an organisation; we are creating memberships that are part of an experience of a wellness journey, to help everyone to live their lives to the fullest.

“I would encourage everyone to come along to the new centre to see the wonderful facilities that are available for all people, take part in the activities on Saturday and Sunday, and make Down Leisure Centre part of their wellness journey.”

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Director of Active and Healthy Communities, Michael Lipsett, said: “We are very proud of what we will be offering with the new Down Leisure Centre, and our staff will be on hand to offer advice and support in all aspects of your membership, training or a healthy living approach to life.

“Across all the district’s indoor leisure facilities we offer an extensive variety of membership options for all our leisure centres. Our membership packages have options for daily, quarterly, half year and full year membership, along with easy direct debit payments plans available. There will be a membership package to suit everyone’s individual needs, whether you want to swim or relax in the luxury Vitality Health Suite, participate in classes or workout in the gym.
