In The Red Mountain Bike Event
‘In The Red’ Mountain Bike Sportive
On 12 June, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council in association with 26 Extreme, will present a new Mountain Bike event 'In The Red' for the Rostrevor Trails, as part of the Northern Ireland Festival of Cycling 2016.
The event encompasses the entire ‘Red Loop’ of Rostrevor Mountain Bike Trails, and consists of a 29km long trial from start to finish. While the ‘Red Loop’ is a popular cycling destination, not many have had the experience of riding it ‘Sportive Style’. A cyclosportive, or often simply known as sportive, is a short to long distance, mass-participation cycling event. These events are often organised along popular cycling routes and are extremely popular among road cyclists. With a mass start, water and aid stops, mechanical services, marshal support, chipped timing, medals and a bespoke event t-shirt, this will definitely not be any other typical day on the ‘Red Loop’.
There will be a wide range of activities will be on offer throughout Kilbroney Park on the day to keep everyone entertained including bike safety workshops, kids trails and health and safety bike awareness sessions.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Ruane said, “Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is excited to be working with 26Extreme and Tourism NI during the NI Festival of Cycling. I am sure this will be a fantastic mountain bike event and with all the other activities on offer it is sure to be a great day out for all the family”.
For those more experience cyclers, who want to prove their prowess on the ‘Red Loop’, there is the option to aim for riding the entire loop in under 1hr 30 minutes. Riders who achieve this will have their official ‘Red Loop’ completion time posted online for everyone to see and will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
