Get Ready for Drawing Day at Newry and Mourne Museum!
Drawing Day has become a major annual event for Museums focusing on a range of drawing activities that invite participants to engage with museum collections and current exhibitions.
This year Newry and Mourne Museum will be taking part with drop-in workshops from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 17 May, facilitated by local artists, Anna-Marie Savage and Mark O’Neill.
These sessions will include drawing a selection of objects from the Museum’s handling collection for still life sketching and life-drawing classes which will appeal to the over 10s. There will also be a communal drawing project for the younger children which will focus on the street where we live.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Chairperson, Councillor Pete Byrne said, “this event is a wonderful opportunity for young people to engage with the Museum’s collection and create their own wonderful piece of art. Not only that, but they will mentored by renowned local artists.”
Anna-Marie Savage is a contemporary visual artist based in Omeath. She graduated in Fine Art from the Belfast School of Art, University of Ulster. Her work has featured in many exhibitions throughout Ireland. Mark O’Neill graduated from Liverpool University with a BA in Fine Art and his work has been featured in solo exhibitions and collective shows in New York, Liverpool, London, Dublin, Belfast and Newry galleries.
These drop-in workshops are free of charge and an adult must accompany all children who attend. For more information or to book please email Declan.Carroll@nmandd.org.
