Get Active Outdoors Extravaganza
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and the Ring of Gullion team have joined forces with a number of activity providers in the area to host a ‘Get Active Outdoors Extravaganza’ in order to promote an active society that is healthy, happy and inclusive.
The event will take place in Slieve Gullion Forest Park on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September as part of the European Week of Sport to promote sport and physical activity across Europe. The event will showcase some of the excellent outdoor activities that are available in the Ring of Gullion area with a number of activities on offer such as a climbing tower provided by ‘LIFE’ adventures, archery and canoeing provided by Gullion Adventures and hill walking with the Gap of the North walking group.
There will be plenty to keep the kids amused, with fairy walks around the Hawthorn Hill Forest Nature Reserve as well as a number of other exciting events taking place to keep children entertained from 10.30am until 4.30pm on both days, so make sure to pack a picnic and have a memorable day out with all the family.
Those who are feeling adventurous can take part in a historic guided cycle from Slieve Gullion Forest Park to Camlough (with a café stop in between) while taking in the outstanding views of Camlough Lake and the surrounding areas.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “We have had an outstanding summer of activities in the area with the very successful Ring of Gullion Lúnasa Festival and the Footsteps in the Forest Weekend in August. We are very proud to be organizing this Extravaganza as part of the European Week of Sport this September.”
Councillor Fitzpatrick continued, “We have joined this Europe-wide movement to help spread the word about the benefits of physical activity outdoors. I would encourage everyone to invite their friends and family to Slieve Gullion Forest Park for this action packed weekend.”
Certain activities will require booking, for further information or to book an event please visit www.ringofgullion.org. Additional car parking will be available, please follow the signs on the day.
