Get Active at Outdoor Recreation Workshops
On Tuesday 21 June, groups from the South Armagh area who want to develop in outdoor recreation activities are being given the chance to attend a workshop focusing on the development of an Outdoor Recreation Community.
The workshops will discuss how a variety of outdoor activities including running, walking, cycling, angling, swimming and orienteering can be developed by discussing working in partnership to link health and wellbeing outcomes together, the setting up an outdoor recreation forum and what this forum would involve, as well as providing information on available funding.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “South Armagh’s natural and historic environment provides a fantastic backdrop for a wide range of outdoor recreation activities, ranging from dog walking and visiting parks to running and water sports. Participation in outdoor recreation, even in activities which aren’t particularly energetic, is of great benefit to our health and well-being. Outdoor recreation is an important element within the sport industry and is closely associated with grassroots participation, tourism and family activity”.
The workshop will be held in Mullaghbane Community Centre at 7.30pm. Representatives from Sport NI will be on hand to facilitate the workshop and speak about the funding grants available for outdoor recreation development.
