Fil Campbell and Tom McFarland in Concert – the Perfect Valentine’s Treat

As a late Valentine’s treat, Down Arts Centre is delighted to welcome Irish singer-songwriter, Fil Campbell with husband and percussionist Tom McFarland, on Friday 16 February, to play a mixture of contemporary and traditional Irish music. 

Since the 1990’s, Fil Campbell and Tom McFarland have been singing and playing as a musical duo. Their unique combination of blending vocals, guitar and percussion, plus the ability to mix original compositions with traditional and contemporary songs - punctuated by a gift for chat and craic - has won the hearts and minds of audiences around the world.

Originally from Belleek in Co. Fermanagh, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Fil Campbell has been a performing musician and singer since she was a teenager. She is well known locally for her work presenting both television and radio shows as well as her keen interest in community choirs and working with adult singers.

Tom, who works as an engineer and producer in his own Ballyneddan Studio, has played drums and percussion for singers as diverse as John Wright, David Knopfler, Finbar Furey, Ben Sands and many more. As a percussionist he is much in demand as a bodhrán tutor and session player, making appearances on numerous recordings.

With the expert percussion skills of Tom complimenting Fil’s exquisite vocals, this talented musical duo will perform their latest CD of original songs, “Together”. The songs are themed loosely around peace and reconciliation, with many of the songs focussing on current political topics alongside stories collected on their travels. For fans of traditional and contemporary Irish music, this show promises to be a highly engaging and entertaining night.
