Emergencies
The Council works in conjunction with a range of government and voluntary agencies in times of major emergencies.
The Emergency Services and Flood Agencies are normally the first responders at an incident and they would request assistance from the Council when required.
The Police (PSNI) is lead agency in many situations where there is a risk to life.
During the recovery phase of a major emergency, the Council may provide support in a number of ways including, making buildings such as leisure and community centres available to people for emergency shelter, providing health and safety advice on cleaning up after major flooding or pollution, assessing major structural damage to buildings, and coordinating the recovery operations with other government agencies.
