Edgy New Play Shows at Down Arts Centre
‘CRACKS’, by Quintessence Theatre Company, is a darkly comic and deeply moving new play coming to Down Arts Centre on Saturday 29 September.
It is a powerful, original piece exploring mental illness in Ireland today, using a number of innovative storytelling techniques including film and music.
First devised by the company in 2016 and directed by Anna Simpson (a Creative Associate of the Pleasance and Practitioner with the Globe, London), the play tells the story of a young girl who recently attempted suicide, and follows her everyday struggle as she endeavours to pick up the pieces and become well again. ‘I’m falling between the cracks in myself, and I don’t know how to crawl back out…’
This new work, already revived multiple times for sell out runs, seeks to expose the lived experience of battling a severe mental illness in an inefficient and unsympathetic system through the eyes of one young woman.
Tickets for the show are priced at £12/£10 concession and can be booked at Down Arts Centre Box Office on 028 4461 0747.
