Eats & Beats Joins the Giant Adventures Festival Line-up for 2022
In only a matter of weeks food and music fans can look forward to a weekend of fabulous ‘Eats & Beats’ at Visit Mourne’s newest Giant Adventures festival.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Mourne Mountains, Newcastle in County Down will host the new Eats and Beats festival on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September.
Providing the best in local and international food, visitors can enjoy delicious fare at the Homegrown and World Food Villages with over 60 food and drink outlets on offer throughout the weekend’s festivities. As if that isn’t enough, music lovers can dance their way around three music stages, which will offer over 40 free performances and fringe events.
Speaking about the two-day festival set to takeover Newcastle in September, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage said, “I am delighted that the Council has developed another new Giant Adventure to add to its portfolio of flagship events. With its incredible backdrop and holiday vibe, Newcastle will provide the perfect location to draw visitors into the district to enjoy the area’s growing food, drink and music culture.”
“It is important that the Council provides opportunities for our hardworking businesses to showcase themselves to a wide audience. The Eats & Beats festival will be an excellent opportunity to sample our delicious food, award-winning chefs, chart-topping music, great drinks but above all else, a fantastic time with friends and family.”
At the Homegrown Food Village in Donard Park, there will be cooking demos, food and drink tastings and a range of delicious local produce on offer. Visit Mourne’s newest food and drink journey, Savour Visit Mourne, will also have its finest food and drink experiences on show from the likes of Paul Cunningham - famous for his appearance on the Great British Menu, owner of Mourne Larder and Dundrum’s newest eatery, Scopers and infamous for his extraordinary secret dining experiences.
Newry, Mourne and Down’s award winning, local hospitality providers - such as Killeavy Castle Estate, The Cuan and Denvir’s Coaching Inn - will pop up around the village offering tasty menu selections. Additionally, regional producers like Castlescreen Farm will provide visitors with the chance to experience the incredible flavour of their exceptional quality produce. Or if you have a passion for something sweet, delectable treats will be available from our artisan bakers and chocolate makers.
There’ll be a tipple or two on offer from our local distilleries and craft breweries - from gin, whiskey and of course the very best beers.
The weekend’s soundtrack will be played out across three stages from the best in local and international musicians. On the Homegrown stage expect a mix of rock, gospel, folk, country, blues and punk from musical talent across the island of Ireland. To keep the party going, Irish presenter, comedian and DJ Ryan Hand will host the stage throughout the two days.
World music and foodie enthusiasts will delight in tastes and sounds from across the globe in the World Food Village and Stage in Castle Park. Visitors can lose themselves in the vibes of Brazilian Samba, Indian Bhangra, Latin, African and many other traditional music forms while trying weird and wonderful foods from all corners of the world.
Meanwhile the Rising Stage at The Promenade will host new and upcoming acts. Here you can be sure to see the hottest new names in indie, pop and alternative rock over the two days.
So, get your friends or family, head to Newcastle and eat drink and dance your way around the three stages this September, all supported by family fun activities, a sustainability village, fringe events and the Newcastle Artisan Market.
