Draft Community Plan Now Available For Comment

The Draft Strategic Community Plan for the Newry, Mourne and Down Area is now available for comments from residents and groups in the district.  The Community Plan will provide a guide for coordinated actions to address issues such as health provision, job creation, education support, safety and tourism promotion.

In developing the Draft Plan, Partner organisations took into account the big issues raised by the Community over the past year that matter most.  Partners involved in the Community Planning process agreed to commit to addressing the issues raised by local people and to work together to make Newry, Mourne and Down Area a better place to live, work and visit.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson and Chairperson of the Community Planning Partnership, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “I am delighted that the community can now read and comment on the Draft Community Plan which is the first one for our area. The Strategic Community Plan Partnership Board welcomes comments on the 5 Key Outcomes and 20 Indicators and associated measures included in the Draft Plan that will shape public service delivery over the coming years.”

Councillor Fitzpatrick continued, “There are various ways to view the Plan and get involved in helping address community issues that are important to you. The Community Plan is available to download from the Council website along with a short survey questionnaire which includes the opportunity to provide comments. On top of that residents are encourages to attend any of the public events being organised, details of which can be found on the Council website and social media platforms.”

Councillor Fitzpatrick added, “There is plenty of time to respond as the consultation period will remain open until Wednesday 25 January 2017."
