Down Right Brilliant Summer Scheme
Ballyholland Community Centre hosted a very successful Down Right Brilliant Summer Scheme which took place over two weeks.
This support group works with children and young adults with Down’s Syndrome.
They were one of five finalists who went on to win £50,000 for their people’s project. The whole area got behind them and voted for these young people who can often be isolated and forgotten about.
Running this summer scheme was one of their aims and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew visited the group to congratulate them on their extraordinary achievements.
The group explained to her that activities like these help reduce isolation build friendship and give young people with Down’s syndrome a place that they can call their own. They said that they hope to develop and expand their weekly speech, drama, and numicon classes.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said "I am delighted that the Council were involved with this group by providing Every Body Active 2020 coaches to work with the young people. I wish the group every success in the future."
