Down Leisure Centre in Downpatrick Near Completion
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s new premier Down Leisure Centre is preparing to open its doors.
Local residents and visitors will soon be able to take their first look inside the new centre, which will provide state-of-the-art facilities to improve health and wellbeing for everyone. These will include an 85 station Wellness gym, 26 station spin studio, luxury Vitality health suite and six-lane swimming pool and learner pool.
Saturday 24 November and Sunday 25 November will see the doors open to the public for a fun-filled weekend of activities showcasing the new facilities, ahead of opening on Monday 26 November. Call in between 10am and 4pm to see some of the new facilities and take part in taster sessions.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Mark Murnin, explained how the new leisure centre would link in to the Council’s ‘Be Active’ campaign, launched last year.
“The opening of the new Down Leisure Centre will be a fantastic moment for the district and will provide an opportunity for everyone to Be Active and try out a new range of activities,” said Councillor Murnin. “The aim of the Be Active campaign is to motivate everyone to undertake more activity.
“A healthy and active lifestyle contributes positively to physical, mental and social wellbeing and our leisure and sport facilities can help you achieve this.
“Our facilities will kick-start your journey to wellness and our staff will be there to help you along the way. We want to encourage everyone in our district to Be Active not only in our leisure facilities but in all corners of our district.”
A Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Be Active app was also launched last month. This allows users to keep up-to-date with news, offers, class timetables, booking information and much more in relation to our leisure centres and outdoor leisure facilities.
