District Electoral Areas Celebrate Eid

Newry, Slieve Gullion, Croitlieve, and Downpatrick DEA, in partnership with Newry Muslim Community Association, held an Eid celebration event on Saturday 15 June in Bessbrook Community Centre.

As part of the celebration the Newry Muslim Community Association invited local community groups to take part.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “The celebration of Eid, which marks the end of Ramadan, is marked by Muslims across the world and follows a month-long period of fasting, reflection, pray and community.

“Today’s Eid festivities highlight the importance bringing people are together to share food, good will and community.”

Over 120 people from a range of community backgrounds attended the event which included an information session, music, food and children’s entertainment.
