Deep, Dark, Comical ‘CRACKS’ Comes to Sean Hollywood Arts Centre
‘CRACKS’ by Quintessence Theatre Company, in association with An Táin Arts Centre is coming to Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, Newry, on Tuesday 25 September 2018 at 7.30pm.
Quintessence Theatre Company uses their innovative, physical, ensemble of storytelling techniques mingled with multi-media platforms of film and music, to poignantly explore the profound struggle individuals with mental illness face on a daily basis in Ireland today.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Mark Murnin said, “This is a powerful piece of devised theatre from An Tain Arts Centre’s Company-In-Residence exploring the issue of mental illness in Ireland. Mental illness among our young people is increasing, and this play tackles the problem head on.”
In this darkly comical and deeply moving new play, an unsuccessful suicide attempt leaves young Leanne Dowd estranged and attempting to pick up the pieces of a life still shattered by mental illness. ‘I’m falling between the cracks in myself, and I don’t know how to crawl back out…’
Devised by the company and directed by Anna Simpson, a Creative Associate of the Pleasance and Practitioner with the Globe, London, this brand new work seeks to expose the lived experience of battling a severe mental illness in an inefficient and unsympathetic system through the eyes of one young woman.
The talented Cast includes Leah Rossiter, Anthony Kinahan and Fiona Keenan O’Brien. Suitable for audiences of 16 years and over, tickets are just £8 and £6 with group concessions available. Contact the Box Office on 028 3031 3180 or email arts.reception@nmnadd.org.
