DEA’s to Host Social Event for Family and Friends in Caring Roles
In association with South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust Downpatrick, Rowallane and Slieve Croob District Electoral Area Forums (DEA) have organised a social event for those people who provide care and support to loved ones. The Event will take place on Thursday 12 March from 10.30am to 12.30pm in Crossgar War Memorial Hall. The event aims to provide an opportunity for people who may be experiencing social isolation due to their caring responsibilities to enjoy a little respite. Attendees and those they are caring for will meet other carers to share experiences and have an opportunity to talk and connect with people who understand what they are going through.
A variety of agencies will be on hand to offer advice, help and support and there will be a variety of activities provided for all attendees. These activities include gentle hand massages, reminiscence experience, potting a plant that can be taken home and live music provided by the popular duo, Country Harmony. The event is free and open to anyone who think they would benefit from attending.
Speaking on the initiative Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “In many families the care and support of family members who are incapacitated for many different reasons is provided by a relative who gives of their time and energy in an unpaid capacity. We hope that this event will give both carers and their loved ones some very deserved ‘down time’ and an opportunity to meet and socialise with likeminded people. I am delighted that in partnership with the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust that Downpatrick, Rowallane and Slieve Croob DEA’s have taken the step to respond to a very obvious need for some rest and relaxation for these unsung heroes.”
Booking is essential as tea/coffee and scones will be provided upon arrival. To book a place for this social event please contact Pamela or Sharon at Carers Support on 028 9756 5456 or by email to carer.support@setrust.hscni.net.
