Data Protection
From time to time you may be asked to submit personal information in order to receive or use services on our website. When you supply personal information to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council we have legal obligations to process and handle your data appropriately and lawfully.
The Data Protection Act 2018 (the DPA) gives you a right to access the information Newry, Mourne and Down District Council holds about you. These requests are known as Subject Access Requests or SARs.
To make a SAR you will need to contact council either in writing or verbally by telephoning council.
If submitting your SAR in writing you will need to dowload and complete our Subject Access Request form. This is not a mandatory form, other formats will be accepted, but this form is designed to allow us to best ascertain your requirements.
We have a responsibility to ensure that we keep your information safe. For that reason, we'll ask you to provide us with some proof of identity. You will be required to provide a copy of your passport, driving licence, or other document showing your name and signature. Please also provide us with a recent bill (eg a utility bill) showing your name and address. This will help us to verify your identity.
If you are making a request on behalf of someone else, we will ask for evidence showing your entitlement or authority to do so.
We will aim to provide you with a response to your request within one calendar month.
For more information about accessing your own information, please visit the Information Commissioner’s website: https://ico.org.uk
You have a right to see information held about you (with a few exemptions allowed for in the Data Protection Act 2018). If you wish to see any personal information we hold about you, please complete and return the Subject Access Request form.
