Culture Night Celebrations in Downpatrick
Culture Night Celebrations in Downpatrick
On Friday 16 September from 6pm to 9pm, Down Arts Centre is teaming up with the Downpatrick Community Collective and Down Community Arts to bring Culture Night to Downpatrick, part of the all-island celebration of creativity arts and culture.
Culture Night has grown from a relatively small-scale cultural event staged only in Dublin in 2006 to the significant national cultural event it now is, with some 350,000 people visiting museums, galleries, historic houses, artists’ studios and cultural centres across the country.
The initiative has captured both the public imagination and the enthusiasm of artists and cultural organisations. Special and unique events including workshops are specifically programmed at participating locations and everything is free of charge.
This is Downpatrick's third Culture Night event and Down Arts Centre is again delighted to be working in partnership with the Downpatrick Community Collective (as a principal organiser) and Down Community Arts to deliver this event. With funding from Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, a variety of music and dance will be on offer from within the festival Marquee situated in St Patrick's Square with Down Community Arts hosting interactive art workshops on site.
Down Arts Centre will host the premiere of ‘Sonny’s Nightmare’, a new film by Dramability, and live music by Ossia Music School, in addition to interactive pottery workshops with Aine McKenna and Helen Faulkner.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “Culture Night happens because many people share a vision and enthusiasm for enjoying, celebrating and promoting creativity and culture, so come along to take advantage of the opportunity and enjoy the fantastic culture that Downpatrick has to offer.”
